Medical tourism or health tourism is the travel of people to another country for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment in that country.

Tourism plays a vital role in the economic development of a country. Tourism is the second largest foreign exchange earner in India. The tourism industry employs a large number of people, both skilled and unskilled.

This has put India on the international map as a haven for those seeking quality and affordable healthcare. The Department of Tourism promotes international and domestic tourism in the country.
