Simhastha Kumbh – An unrivalled celebration in India.

 The name Kumbh Mela literally means “kumbha fair”. It is known as Kumbh in Hindi ; in Sanskrit and some other Indian languages, it is more often known by its original name “Kumbha”. The Kumbh mela at Ujjain going on a prestigious baths and Ujjain kumbh is also called as Simhast kumbh, while a planet is in Leo ; in this case, it is also known as Simhastha.  The Kumbh mela at Ujjain is held at the banks of the river Shipra. The Simhastha is special in Ujjain as it is the seat of divine Mahakal – the Lord of all times. The ritual of bathing in the holy waters of shipra begins on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Chaitra (March-April) and continues on various dates until the full moon shows up in the following month of Vaishakha. According to medieval Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu dropped drops of Amrita (the drink of immortality) at four places, while transporting it in a kumbha (pot). These four places are identified as the present-day sites of the Kumbh Mela.Ujjain is important because of the rare combination of the Jyotirlinga and Shaktipeeth being found in one place. Among the 12 Jyotirlingas, the Mahakal has been considered as the adhipati aadidev of Ujjain.The ancient tradition of praying for power nds manifestation in the form of the Harsiddhi Devi temple. This is one of the main Shaktipeeth in India. As per the old belief, this is the place where Sati’s elbow had fallen. Harsiddhi Devi has also been the main Goddess.The enigmatic tradition of worshipping God Shiva, the Kaal Bhairav, can be seen very beautifully in the prayers here. The present temple had been built in the 18th century.
