First electric traffic signal installed – Aug 05, 1914

Traffic lights, also known as traffic signals, traffic lamps, traffic semaphore, signal lights, stop lights, robots and traffic control signals,are signalling devices positioned at road intersections, pedestrian crossings, and other locations to control flows of traffic. The world’s first electric traffic signal is put into place on the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 105th Street in Cleveland, Ohio, on this day in 1914. In the earliest days of the automobile, navigating America’s roads was a chaotic experience, with pedestrians, bicycles, horses and streetcars all competing.
