When I shared my plans for a Jamaican vacation with family and friends, nobody was really excited for me, they were worried. “Why?” “Are you staying at an all-inclusive?” “Jamaica is so dangerous!” No, we weren’t staying in an all-inclusive, we were going on an adventure, to learn, to relax, to enjoy.

The reality of the all-inclusive resort is exclusion, and that became abundantly clear. Tourists are isolated within the resorts and the local economy receives no direct benefit from the presence of these white giants. James, a native Jamaican who has worked for our hotel for 19 years tells us, “What the travel industry does is scare people from staying anywhere but an all-inclusive resort.
