Chiang Mai is the most favorite destination of Norther Thailand and the main gateway to Pai, Chiang Rai and Laos. In opposed to most Thai destinations, it is mountain city and there are no beaches close by. It was the capital of Lan Na kingdom from 1296 [wiki].
Chiang Mai is very popular among Chinese tourists for one special reason: A movie!
