Wildlife tourism – considered to be the world’s largest business enterprise

Tourism is widely considered to be the world’s largest business enterprise, involving tens of millions of employees and hundreds of millions of customers. ‘Tourism’ is the sum of government and private sector activities that shape and serve the needs and manage the consequences of holiday, business and other travel . A ‘tourist’ is a person who travels 40km or more away from their home for a period of at least one night, for any reason other than paid employment.  Tourism for many countries plays a vital role in stabilizing the economy of the country. Wildlife watching tourism is tourism that is organized and undertaken in order to watch wildlife. Increase the response of people towards tourism has gained the Tourism industry a significant importance despite the threat to biological and cultural diversity. Tourism with as its primary purpose the viewing, studying and/or enjoying of Indian wildlife (animals, plants and other organisms). Although tourism brings business in a country and a respectable image in the international community but at the same time tourism can be hazardous towards natural attractiveness, the wildlife and the local community. This definition includes wildlife watching holidays, wildlife boat trips, guided walks, visits to wildlife parks and sanctuaries from earthly  viewpoints. It excludes activities where the interaction with wildlife is incidental to the experience and consumptive forms of wildlife tourism. Wildlife tourism can also be viewed in terms of the different types of species and experiences that attract visitors. The economics of wildlife tourism is important and needs discussion. First, wildlife tourism is a major economic activity. Second, the common misconception that the economics of wildlife tourism consists purely of its commercial aspects needs correcting. While commercial aspects of wildlife interest economists, commercialism does not determine the boundaries of the applications of economics to wildlife tourism. Wildlife viewing tourism is an important segment of tourism and has grown rapidly in many countries in recent decades and is becoming a major industry. For many tourists, a significant reason for visiting a country/region or extending their stay is the presence of wildlife. Wildlife tourism can also have a positive effect on wildlife species and their habitats through non-financial contributions. Operators and tourists can contribute positively to conservation of wildlife and their habitats by participating in management activities, monitoring or research. A number of commercial wildlife tourism operators make such contributions by involving tourists in conservation-related research projects. Wildlife tourism is a specialized, yet supremely important, aspect of the tourism phenomenon. When thinking about why people like to see wildlife, it is perhaps helpful to take an historical perspective.
